Tennis fever could lead to an increase in the number of people making claims on their home insurance, one firm has warned.
David Rochester, head of underwriting for Halifax Home Insurance, explains that as Wimbledon inspires people to pick up their racquet, there is often a rise in the number of people making claims for broken windows .
He said: During the summer months we often notice an increase in claims for broken windows and other accidental breakages.
We'd advise any budding Murrays and Sharapovas to take care when playing ball sports close to home.
People should also make sure that their home insurance policy covers them for accidental damage, he added.
Yesterday, Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance for Direct Line, advised people who are about to start a major DIY project to seek advice before they do so.
This could include fitting a new kitchen or bathroom, or knocking down interior walls, he stated.
