Homeowners must do more to protect the contents of their sheds, one insurance firm has warned.
According to Simon Lamble, product director at Confused.com, many people do not bother to lock their sheds at night, leading to the prospect of an unsuccessful home insurance claim if an opportunist thief breaks in.
While many home insurance policies cover sheds, people should check what the maximum pay out is, especially if they store expensive garden equipment in there, he stated.
Mr Lamble said: It is imperative that, when taking out home insurance policies, homeowners consider the contents of their sheds, garages and any other outbuildings, and insure them accordingly.
People might want to consider security measures such as floodlights and a shed alarm, both of which should help reduce the risk of burglary and a subsequent home insurance claim, he added.
Last week, Peter Baxter of Tescocompare.com, warned people to check if their home insurance policy covers any accidental damage that might occur.
