The rising cost of food means that people should check how much freezer cover their home insurance policy offers, one expert has warned.
Sylvia Newham, head of communications for NFU Mutual, explained that if a freezer breaks down during summer people can lose the entire contents, making it vital they have home insurance cover in place.
Ms Newham said: "People should check not only that their home insurance policy covers their freezer, but also that it coves the full value of the freezer's contents."
Recent increases in the cost of food mean that home insurance which covers frozen food "is now more vital than ever", she added.
NFU Mutual is one of the few home insurance firms that does not impose limits on the amount of food covered, Ms Newham stated.
Yesterday, Simon Lamble, product director of Confused.com, warned people who are taking items such as mp3 players to musical festivals to properly secure their gadgets, or risk invalidating their home insurance if they are stolen.
