Home insurance essential for those going to Glastonbury

Fri, 13 Jun 2008

People going to the Glastonbury Festival this year should ensure that they have adequate home insurance to protect their belongings, says Esure Home Insurance .

A home insurance policy will not cover valuables that are left unprotected in an unlocked tent, but if a mobile phone falls out of a pocket and is lost under inches of mud or trampling feet, it will be replaced up to a specified item limit.

Esure recommends that those attending festival this summer can avoid the potential loss of uncovered items by not taking any unnecessary valuable items and never leaving them unattended.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, said: "Festivals such as Glastonbury are havens for opportunistic thieves and pickpockets and the very nature of these events increases the likelihood of belongings being accidentally dropped, misplaced or damaged. As a rule of thumb, don’t pack anything that is valuable. Those taking items such as mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players or portable DVD players with them, need to make sure they're adequately insured."
