Kids cause accidents, home insurance firm warns

Mon, 21 Jul 2008

Children are the cause of 1.1 million household accidents each year, one home insurance firm has warned.

According to a report by Tescocompare.com kids can be the cause of incidents from spilt drinks to toast in the DVD player, meaning their parents might have to claim on their home insurance .

Paul Baxter, spokesperson for Tescocompare.com, said: "As the saying goes accidents do happen - and this research suggests many of us suffer financial loses on an annual basis."

For this reason, people should ensure that they have a home insurance policy which covers them against accidental loss, he added.

According to the research, young children cause £229 million worth of damage each year, while teenagers account for £68 million.

Last week, a study by Confused.com revealed that people who shop around for their home insurance can save a total of £193.81 a year on their premium.

For this reason, people should check if they can get the same level of home insurance cover for a reduced cost when they come to renew their policy, the firm stated.
