The recent theft of David Cameron's mountain bike should remind others to make sure their cycle is covered by their home insurance policy, one provider has warned.
According to Asda Financial Services, nearly 2,000 bikes have been stolen in London in the last year and those without home insurance cover for theirs will have to buy a new one.
Gideon Ingham, spokesperson for the home insurance provider, said: Cyclists should make sure they're not left out of pocket by ensuring valuable bikes have adequate cover and are always listed amongst their personal possessions.
People should always make sure that they lock their bikes in order to avoid having to make a claim on their home insurance in the first place, he added.
Last week, Direct Line announced that it is now offering what it calls an all-inclusive home insurance policy .
According to the firm, the policy automatically extends home insurance cover to possessions such as hand bags and credit cards.
