Those planning to get married should make sure their home insurance policy covers any expensive items they might have as they prepare for the big day, one expert has warned.
Vicky Emmott, senior technical claims manager for Halifax Home Insurance, explained that as people often have things vital to the ceremony stored at their property they might not have enough cover .
She said: "All these items can add up to a princely sum, and with all the planning that goes into arranging a wedding, ensuring that home contents insurance is adequate may not be top of everyone's list."
However, as most home insurance companies offer only a fixed level of cover, people should make sure their provider is kept informed of any expensive items being kept at the property, she added.
Newlyweds should also make sure their home insurance covers the cost of the gifts they receive, Ms Emmott stated.
Yesterday, Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, warned keen cyclists to check if their home insurance policy covers their bike .
