A year on from floods that affected large parts of the country one home insurance firm has issued some tips should it happen again.
Home insurance firm NFU Mutual points out there are many steps people can take to reduce the impact flooding and these include moving items upstairs to keep them out of harm's way.
People should also make sure they have their home insurance documents in a safe place in case they need to make a claim.
John Kenny, chief claims manager at NFU Mutual, said: Last summer's floods are a timely reminder of the importance of updating contents insurance .
Working out room-by-room how much it will cost to replace belongings is a good way to work out how much home insurance cover is needed, he added.
Yesterday, Tescocompare.com found that 64 per cent of home insurance customers did not switch providers last year despite the fact that 44 per cent saw their premiums rise more than inflation .
