People who live in flood-prone areas should still be able to get home insurance as long as they have not claimed for damage related to such an incident, new research shows.
A study by moneysupermarket.com shows that people living in Tewkesbury - a high-risk flood area - are still able to get competitive home insurance quotes as long as their property has not been affected in the past.
However, if they have claimed for flooding just three home insurance firms are willing to offer them a quote, although these are still "competitive".
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "It is not all bad news - even if a claim has been made for flood damage and only a handful of insurers will provide a quote - premiums remain incredibly competitive, highlighting the benefit of shopping around for your cover ."
Yesterday, a report by Defaqto warned that home insurance comparison websites do not offer "whole of market" coverage, despite what some advertising implies.
