Those living in areas at risk from flooding might be please to hear that a deal has been struck which should guarantee they are able to obtain home insurance.
Following last year's widespread flooding, the government and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) have struck a deal they say will mean that home insurance for flooding is widely available now and in the future.
Under the terms of the agreement, the government will put in place a scheme to boost flood defences, while the ABI will provide advice on how to obtain flood cover as part of a home insurance policy .
Stephen Haddrill, the ABI's director-general, said: It will help ensure that the flood insurance protection, relied upon by millions of householders and businesses, remains widely available.
We will continue to work closely with government, and review progress each year.
Last week, Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at Direct Line, stated that recent heavy rain should serve as a reminder for people to make sure they are fully covered against flooding.
