Keen cyclists should consider if their home insurance policy offers adequate cover for their bike, one expert has warned.
According to Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, people who use peddle power a lot should think about the amount of cover they have for their equipment.
While home insurance policies often cover bikes, those with more expensive kit might want to consider a stand alone policy, he stated.
Mr Gerrard said: "While stand-alone cover could cost well over the price of adding it on to your existing home policy, it has added benefits such as emergency recovery, replacement hire, and even worldwide use for the cycling enthusiasts who take their bikes abroad."
Research by the website has found that a bicycle can be added to a home insurance policy for a little as £10, he added.
Last week, NFU Mutual warned people to check if their home insurance policy covers the contents of their freezer as if it does not they risk having to cover the cost of any food that goes off if the device breaks down.
