People who do not take out holiday home insurance could face an expensive pay out should the worst happen, one expert has warned.
According to Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA), any one who owns a holiday property needs to make sure they have home insurance in place for it.
He said: "The message is to get out there because if you do get bad weather or any kind of incident then it could be extremely complicated and expensive to try and [put it right]."
Mr Trudgill advised people to visit a home insurance broker in order to discuss getting a policy for their second home abroad if they have not already done so.
His comments follow research from Zurich Private Clients which found that one in ten people with a holiday property do not have a home insurance policy for it.
