An expert has suggested that it is unlikely that a household would be unable to obtain home insurance due to the risk of flooding unless the area was prone to regular floods.
Rod Fry of Foster Leighton Insurance Brokers, told the Express and Echo that the government has called on the insurance industry to continue offering cover in all areas of the country.
However, while the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has agreed to this, the government has not spent an adequate amount of money on improving the country's flood defences, he stated.
We look at the postcode where the property is situated and then check to see if it's in a flood area, he told the newspaper .
If the property is in a flood area, the insurance company may offer conventional terms if it has not been flooded in several decades, he remarked.
Accoriding to the ABI, the floods which affected a number of areas in the UK in June and July caused damage costing approximately £3 billion.
Overall, there were 165,000 insurance claims submitted.
