Those with home insurance policies may want to take an inventory of their possessions to help in the event of them having to make a claim, one expert has said.
A spokesperson for price comparison website uSwitch.com explained that people should also get certain items valued and perhaps even take photographs of them in case they ever need to make a claim on their home insurance .
He said: "A lot of people don’t actually know what the things they have are actually worth. Obviously an insurance company will look at single high-value items and they may refuse to cover them in the event of a claim if they were not informed about it beforehand.
The representative also said that people should read the small print of their home insurance policies to see exactly what steps they need to take to make sure that all their personal belonging are covered.
Figures released by the Association of British Insurers reveal that its members pay out £9 million worth of home insurance claims a day in 2006.
