Anyone taking out home insurance cover for a holiday property should make sure it includes public liability and emergency travel cover, one expert has warned.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, explained that these two elements of holiday home insurance are particularly vital if people plan to rent out the property .
If something was to happen at the property and they had such an option included in their home insurance, then people "can jump on a plane and get out there and [they] would get emergency travel cover for up to £1,000".
Being able to get there quickly and sort things out will cut the amount of rental income people lose, Mr Crowder stated.
People should also be careful if they opt for an overseas home insurance firm as they might not offer the same level of cover as UK-based firms, he added.
A recent study by Zurich Private Clients found that one in ten people do not have insurance for their holiday homes .
It also found that 11 per cent of people are not sure if their level of home insurance cover is sufficient to cover belongings kept in their property.
