Parents warned to check home insurance before teenage parties

Fri, 22 Aug 2008

As students celebrate their exam success this summer, one expert is advising parents to prepare for parties by checking their home insurance .

Fairinvestment.co.uk warns that parties in the family home can often lead to damage, both accidental and deliberate.

The company states that while accidental damage is often covered by home insurance policies, malicious breakages or accidents caused by someone other than the homeowner are often not.

Fairinvestment.co.uk spokesperson Rachael Stiles comments: "There are no guarantees that the insurance will pay out. Although accidental damage is designed to protect you, it is not necessarily valid when it comes to malicious damage inflicted by a stranger."

Ms Stiles suggests that keeping a close eye on parties can prevent such incidents occurring.

In related news, Abbey recently claimed that toddlers cost their parents £552 million in repairs due to accidental breakages.

Abbey noted it is important for people to ensure they have enough home insurance to cope with this level of damage.
