People who travel a lot might want to consider extending their home insurance cover, according to one expert.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager at the AA, explained that people who are worried about damage to personal items while overseas should ask their home insurance firm if they can provide cover for such a situation.
He said: It's a good idea to have an extension on your UK home contents policy which gives cover for your personal property anywhere in the world.
This would mean that people could claim on their home insurance if something did happen and also that baggage they have with them does not need to be covered by their travel insurance, he added.
Recently, a study by Zurich Private Clients found that one in ten people with a holiday home do not have contents insurance for it.
A further 11 per cent were unsure if their holiday home insurance was enough to cover their valuables.
