Home insurance warning over holiday properties

Mon, 11 Aug 2008

People with a second property should make sure that they have adequate holiday home insurance in place, according to one expert.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, explained that although there is no legal requirement to have home contents insurance for any property, it is still a good idea to take out a policy.

Those who do take out home insurance should make sure it suits their requirements, he stated.

Mr Crowder said: "When you're taking out insurance and you're looking at contents, it's important to make sure you've got sufficient cover for everything and that you do include everything."

Any holiday home insurance policy should include items such as carpets, curtains and furniture, he added.

Last week, Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, predicted that people could see the cost of their home insurance premium rise because of flooding, even if they do not live in an area which is at risk.

This is because firms will be looking to recoup the cost of increased payout due to such events.
