Shopping around for home insurance could net consumers massive savings, according to new research.
A study undertaken by Gocompare.com found the difference between the average price and cheapest home insurance policy can be up to 45 per cent.
This means that anyone who shops around can effectively get three year's home insurance cover for the price of two, the report stated.
Hayley Parsons, chief executive of the firm, said: "As our figures show, the difference in premiums between insurance companies can be quite significant so it is important that you don't just accept the first quote that you are given."
Ms Parsons did warn that people should make sure that they compare home insurance on the level of cover a policy provides and not just cost.
Earlier this week, Debra Williams of Confused.com advised people to check their home insurance policy at least once a year to make sure that it still covers all their valuables.
