Poor weather serves as home insurance warning

Tue, 01 Apr 2008

The recent bad weather should serve as a warning for those without adequate home insurance cover, one expert has claimed.

Robin Bailey, insurance director at Nationwide, explained that home insurance is vital to ensure that flooding and storm damage does not turn into a financial disaster for those affected.

He said: "The recent spate of bad weather is a grim reminder of the devastation that extreme weather can cause and highlights the importance of having adequate home insurance cover ."

Mr Bailey recommended that anyone who is hit by flooding should check if their home insurance company offers alternative accommodation .

They should also inform their home insurance provider of the situation as soon as possible, he added.

People should not make any changes or repairs to their home until it has been visited by a loss adjuster, he concluded.

Last week, Debra Williams of Confused.com explained that shopping around for home insurance is even more vital when people are trying to tighten their belts due to adverse economic conditions.
