People moving house should look for an area with low crime rates if they want to keep their home insurance policy costs low, one expert has claimed.
Miles Shipman, commercial director at Rightmove, explained that a neighbourhood watch scheme and traditionally low crime all help keep home insurance premiums down.
He said: House insurance becomes cheaper if the claims records are less in an area therefore it is likely to be, perhaps, because there is a good neighbourhood watch.
Cheaper house insurance is one reason to buy in an area.
However, cheaper home insurance is only a bonus to the benefits of low crime and a more traditional area, he concluded.
Earlier this week, Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, stated that no matter how low someone's income is, they should be able to find a home insurance policy that suits there needs.
An insurance broker should be able to find a suitable deal, he added.
