Copying TV chefs could be bad for your health, and you home insurance policy, new research has found.
A survey commissioned by esure home insurance found that despite the fact that 73 per cent of people consider themselves to be amateur cooks at best, they still attempt complex cooking techniques.
It also found that kitchen accidents cost more than £5 billion worth of damage to UK homes each year.
Mike Pickard, head of home insurance for esure, said: "The kitchen is one of the most dangerous rooms in a house - but adding a budding home cook and a technical recipe can make the likelihood of having an accident soar."
He advised that people make sure that they their home insurance policy covers accidental damage in case of a kitchen mishap.
Earlier this week, Zurich Insurance warned that people could be at risk from break-ins as they are not taking sufficient home security measures.
