Keen, and even not so keen, sportspeople should make sure that their home insurance covers any expensive equipment they may own, one expert has warned.
Emma Holyer, spokesperson for LV Home Insurance, explained that many people underestimate the value of things such as golf clubs and could be surprised by the cost of replacing them.
She said: "We tend to think that the most costly things to replace are jewellery or electronics, but sporting equipment can cost hundreds if not thousands of pounds for specialist kit."
Ms Hoyler added that people should make sure that they have personal insurance cover for when they are out using their sporting equipment, as home insurance does not always cover this.
Yesterday, Andrew Lowe, head of Direct Line home insurance, issued a similar warning.
He said that joggers should make sure that items such as MP3 players and mobile phones are covered by their home insurance when they go out running.
