People who travel with expensive items should check to see if they are covered under their home insurance policies, one expert has claimed.
Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, explained that as travel insurance policies are often limited to how much they cover, those taking high-cost items away with them need to make sure that they are covered.
He said: Your travel policy is only going to cover you for a limited amount. People may have wider, higher limits under their household policy if they have got all risks.
Mr Tarling added that people should check their home insurance policy to see what, if any, level of cover they have for expensive items outside of their house .
People should also make sure that they understand what their home insurance policy covers before they buy it, he concluded.
Recent research by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance found that ten per cent of people who head overseas do so without cover.
