People should review their home insurance policy on a regular basis to ensure that all their possessions are covered, one expert has claimed.
Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, explained that as people bought more and more items for their house, their home insurance policy might need to be changed to reflect this.
She said: The value of the contents of any home should be reviewed at least once a year. People's possessions change regularly and it is important their insurance cover accurately reflects that.
Ms Williams added that people should make their own decisions about the level of protection they need under their home insurance policy.
Anyone who does not feel they can afford home insurance should way up the benefits of cover against the overall cost, he concluded.
Recently, a survey by Zurich Insurance found that around £8 billion worth of goods owned by people living in rented accommodation are not protected by a home insurance policy.
