As the new university term begins, parents are being urged by a home insurance company to ensure that their offspring's possessions are insured.
Cornhill Direct has advised parents to check their own home insurance policy as this may well provide enough cover to insure their child's possessions when they head off to live away from home at university.
Spokesman for the firm Mark Bishop commented that the party hard lifestyle many students lead at university can leave them vulnerable to robbery.
He also remarked that students own a lot of expensive gadgetry and that this should be covered by a home insurance policy.
These days, students take a lot of electrical kit to university such as laptops, mp3 players and mobile phones, so they do need to be insured, he noted.
According to a study by Cornhill Direct, the average student goes out three times a week spending £23 each night and misses four lectures a month to recover from hangovers.
Yesterday, musicians were warned that their instruments may not be covered by their home insurance policies .
