Homeowners in Manchester may want to ensure their home insurance policy is up to date after it has emerged burglaries in the area are less likely to be solved than in other areas of the country.
According to Home Office figures, only one in ten burglaries are solved in Greater Manchester, Rochdale Online reports.
Home insurance policy owners may be interested to note that detection rates in the area are two per cent less than the national average at 24 per cent for the year 2006-7.
Mr Ian Seabridge, the assistant chief constable of Greater Manchester Police, commented that detection rates in the area have actually improved.
Since 2002 we have considerably improved our sanction detection rates from 16 to 24 per cent, which equates to an additional 20,600 crimes being solved, he remarked to the news source.
He added that improvements still needed to be made and that the force are committed to this goal.
Halifax recently announced that it is to extend its Beat and Freeze home insurance policy until the end of 2007.
