Good news for Tyneside home insurance customers

Mon, 01 Oct 2007

Home insurance customers in south Tyneside may be breathing a sigh of relief as police have pledged to take action to reduce burglaries in the area.

The number of break-ins in the region, which can have an impact upon the price that residents pay for their home insurance policies, have been high, leading officers to crack down on the crime, the Shields Gazette reports.

As part of a campaign called Safer South Tyneside, police patrols have been reinforced in areas with high rates of burglary, with recent statistics showing an eight per cent drop between April and August in Jarrow and Hepburn.

This will doubtless be good news for honest residents, as they seek to avoid becoming the victim of crime and the subsequent financial loss or home insurance claim that will follow.

Inspector Jerry Goulding, the neighbourhood beat manager for the aforementioned areas, told the publication: "Domestic burglaries are down and there are not a great number of burglaries in even the worst areas, but we aim to tackle these pockets of crime."

In early September Safer South Tyneside urged new freshers to be cautious of crime as criminals may be likely to target them.
