Households failing to shop around for insurance

Wed, 14 Nov 2007

A new survey has revealed that many homeowners may be missing the opportunity to take up better deals on their home insurance .

Research conducted by Sainsbury's Home Insurance revealed that 8.55 million people did not seek additional quotes when they last decided to renew their insurance policies.

The company found that a further 16 per cent looked for another quote on top of the one given by their existing insurance provider .

Steve Johnson, head of home insurance at Sainsbury's, said: "Although it may seem tempting to just stick with your renewal quote or the first quote you get, it really is essential to shop around."

Insurance products can vary and so there are some "cracking deals" available if people are willing to look, he added.

Earlier in the year, moneysupermarket.com reported that the summer's floods saw applications for home insurance increase significantly.
