Ahead of Fire Safety Week later this month, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services (GMFRS) has urged households to take the time to reduce the risk of fire in their homes.
GMFRS station commander Ian Holt said that thinking about fire safety in the home, a "little bit of housekeeping" and smoke alarms can help to reduce the risk of fire, the Bolton News reports.
"All people need to do is check their property regularly to reduce the risk of fire. If people get into a simple routine it will help prevent a fire from occurring," he commented.
Last week, Halifax Home Insurance urged householders to conduct a safety check around their home during Fire Safety Week between November 14th and 21st.
Vicky Emmot from Halifax Home Insurance said that more could be done to protect people's homes and families from fire and urged people to spend the time checking their homes are safe.
