Bonfire Night home insurance warning

Mon, 05 Nov 2007

Homeowners are being warned about the risks posed by celebrations held on Bonfire Night.

Fair Investment Company has claimed that when people are careless during such festivities, they can damage their own or their neighbours' properties.

According to the firm, the average cost of repairing damage caused on Bonfire Night last year stood at £307, while approximately two million homes in the UK were affected.

James Caldwell, director of Fair Investment Company, said: "We all like to have a good time and enjoy the festivities of bonfire night, but it is important to behave in a responsible way, protecting yourself, property , pets and others from damage or injury."

If people fail to take suitable precautions, the festivities could result in a "personal or financial emergency", he added.

Prasad Shastri, head of insurance marketing at Abbey, recently urged homeowners to ensure that they do not become victims of burglary at this time of year by securing all entrances to their properties.
