Home insurance companies here to help, says ABI

Wed, 11 Jul 2007

The UK's home insurance companies are "doing all they can" to help the victims of the floods that have devastated some areas of the UK, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said.

Following a meeting with the government, described by the trade association as "positive", it has now informed the authority as to the extent of work carried out with the home insurance customers affected by these severe weather incidents.

According to the organisation, home insurance company representatives or a loss adjuster have now visited 99 per cent of homeowners.

"We will keep ministers updated on progress as the clear-up proceeds and insurers help to get thousands of homeowners and business back into their premises," assured the body.

However, the Association of British Insurers also called upon the government to provide more details pertaining to future spending plans on flood defences, although it reiterated its pledge to offer home insurance protection in high-risk areas where flood protection plans are implemented.

The flooding experienced in the wettest June since records began may have left many homeowners without home insurance out in the cold.
