Women's handbags worth GBP 300, study from home insurance company reveals

Wed, 10 Jan 2007

The average woman carries around approximately £300 worth of items on their shoulders, according to the latest findings, which could be protected by some comprehensive home insurance policies.

Following research by financial services provider Cornhill Direct, it has been suggested that the average handbag now costs £48 by itself.

On top of this, the study shows the value of various contents typically carried within these bags, such as £97 for a mobile phone, £35 for an MP3 player, £33 for cash and £8 for a filofax.

Some home insurance policies can be arranged that include cover for theft of personal belongings such as handbags.

However, Cornhill Direct's spokesman Mark Bishop has underlined that it is better to take precautions rather than be put in a position where you need to make a home insurance claim.

"Home contents insurance can help to ease the pain by providing financial help but we cannot replace the peace of mind that losing something as personal as a handbag takes away," he said.

Home insurance polices are currently offered by a number of financial services providers and can be arranged at a high street branch, over the phone or online.
