Homeowner's insurance customers urged to contact their insurance broker

Fri, 19 Jan 2007

Home insurance policyholders who have seen their properties damaged by the recent stormy weather have been offered tips on making insurance claims.

According to financial services provider Lloyds TSB Insurance, it had received 60 per cent more home insurance queries at one point yesterday than it would normally expect on an average day.

Nevertheless, it is urging homeowners who have experienced damage to contact their home insurance provider as soon possible to either register a homeowner's insurance claim or request an adjuster to assess the cost of repair work.

"The best way to make sure your claim is dealt with quickly and efficiently is to contact your insurer as soon as the damage is done," remarked David Stoddard, head of customer service at Lloyds TSB Insurance.

"It's especially important to start the process early at times like this."

In addition, it is also recommending that people do not discard damaged items during their clear-up operations since they may need to be recorded by the home insurance company, while they should also ask their financial services company to provide them with details of local trades people if possible.

The gales that swept across the UK on January 19th 2007 included gusts of wind that travelled at 99 mph, according to the Met Office.
