Homeowners have been told to be they must know their limitations when they carry out DIY work around the house, in advice that could affect those with a home insurance policy .
An expert in the industry and technical consultant for the National Home Improvement Council, Andrew Leech, comments that DIY is very popular but people who can paint and decorate may not be able to carry out a whole property extension.
"People have got to pace themselves, they've got to know their capabilities," he remarks.
Mr Leech adds that many people can have a tendency to take on too much work and stretch their skills.
It is possible that doing improvement work around the home could affect a home insurance policy .
In related news, Liverpool Victoria have agreed with comments made by LV= that homeowners could be advertising high priced goods to thieves by leaving packaging and rubbish from expensive items on display outside their homes.
A spokesperson for the firm advised householders to check their home insurance policies to ensure they are covered for all their valuable items.
