Age Concern: Pensioners need home insurance protection
Pensioners in Lancashire are being warned by Age Concern to protect themselves against financial loss caused by intruders using a good home insurance policy.
The charity has warned that homeowners aged over 65 are at risk from burglary, particularly if they go on a long holiday during the summer months, This is Lancashire has reported.
Alan Brown of Age Concern - Bury commented that although burglary risk generally decreases with age, over-65s are at a significant risk and can suffer emotional distress.
A good home insurance policy is a prerequisite for protecting against the financial problems that burglary can bring, he advised.
Mr Brown added that a burglar alarm , deadlocks on doors and high-quality window locks are good deterrents to thieves and can ensure the safety of a house.
Unforced entry occurs in 20 per cent of burglaries, the news source states, which could affect the validity of home insurance policies.
Age Concern recently commented that a decision to overturn the amendment to the pensions bill would be a step backwards for women of retirement age.
