Recently married couples have been urged to ensure they do not end up underinsured as a result of failing to check their existing home insurance package.
In a study by home insurance provider Churchill Home Insurance, it has been revealed that ten per cent of newlyweds were given gifts with a total value of more than £3,000 on their big day.
Of these presents, it may be that many couples are receiving large amounts of home furnishings and kitchenware products, which may or may not be covered by an old home insurance deal.
Some 33 per cent of guests apparently choose to buy kitchen goods such as glasses and cutlery, according to the research, while seven per cent purchase soft furnishings like candles and cushions.
Churchill Home Insurance's spokesperson Frances Browning outlined the message for newly-married couples.
Newlyweds should consider the insurance implications of receiving such a large number of valuable gifts, she said.
We urge all newly-married couples to check their home insurance.
Earlier this week, fellow home insurance provider Sainsbury's Bank revealed that the average cost of home insurance cover has fallen from £260 in 2004 to £255, which may be of interest to many policyholders looking for a new deal.
