UK residents with American Express home insurance could have a merrier Christmas this year, the company claims.
The insurer is offering enhanced home insurance cover over the festive season, to protect those who may have their presents under the tree in easy reach of burglars.
From December 1st 2006 to January 15th 2007, American Express will offer an extra ten per cent cover for its home insurance policyholders.
This is to cover the average of £260 which Britons are set to spend on their gifts this year, according to research from the insurer.
Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services, comments: "Unfortunately the Christmas period is popular with burglars who realise there are a lot of new goods in homes waiting to be given or received.
"Our home insurance customers have increased protection across the Christmas and new year period for all their gifts and provisions."
Ms Field adds that UK homeowners should check their home insurance cover each year to ensure that it is adequate, particularly during the festive season.
Co-operative Insurance recently claimed that a contribution to a child trust fund savings account could be the perfect gift this Christmas, cutting out the shopping and helping to boost the youngster's future.
