Homeowners have been urged to ensure their house insurance covers drought damage.
Drought could possibly cause cracks to appear in foundations, causing subsidence and damage, according to experts.
Insurance price comparison website InsureSupermarket.com has stated that for around £77 per year customers can obtain house insurance against the possibility.
Richard Mason, director of InsureSupermarket, states that house insurance is vital to make sure you are covered for any damage.
"If you do live in an area of drought make sure you check your building insurance is up to date. If you're insured and the worst does happen, you'll be ok and covered at the best possible premium. Without insurance it will be very costly to repair and could be much harder to obtain insurance."
Environment Agency chief executive Barbara Young has stated that only 87 per cent of the average rain fell in March in the south-east of England.
"We're still facing possibly the worst drought in the past 100 years," added Ms Young.
Currently 13 million households in the UK have restrictions on their water use, some of which may be covered by house insurance, with eight water companies across the south east affected.
