Brits must remember to get home insurance while honing their culinary skills in their expensive kitchens, urges an insurance provider.
People are splashing out more than ever on impressive kitchens, spending a total of £76 billion.
The average kitchen clocks up approximately £1,539 worth of culinary gadgetry with a further £486 spent on utensils.
However, according to Churchill Home Insurance, many aspiring Jamie Olivers have a tendency to be slightly accident-prone, with nine per cent of household accidents taking place in the kitchen.
Each insurance claim for kitchen-related catastrophes averages out at £496, so it is vital householders keep their home insurance up to date, says Martin Scott from Churchill.
"The research shows that the kitchen is full of expensive electrical equipment and accessories so it is imperative that householders make sure they are covered against any accidental damage," he advised.
"Otherwise, it's easy to see how an everyday accident could make a real dent in the household finances."
According to the varied insurance claims made to Churchill Insurance, the kitchen presents a minefield of potential accidents including pressure cookers exploding, bleach bottles bursting onto carpets, or even an abandoned dog bone causing someone to trip and injure themselves.
