UK residents becoming more anti-social, claims home insurance provider

Wed, 28 Jun 2006

Growing numbers of arguments among neighbours indicate that UK residents are becoming more anti-social, according to a home insurance specialist.

Disputes over parking, noise levels, blaring music and a lack of privacy are becoming commonplace in the UK, according to home insurance provider Cornhill Direct.

The poll of 3,000 people in the UK shows that one third have had "terrible" rows with neighbours, while 14 per cent have moved house due to problems.

Furthermore, 34 per cent would like to live in an isolated house, with no neighbours at all.

A spokesman for Cornhill Direct home insurance said: "Having neighbours you know and trust is important. A real sense of community helps to reduce crime and vandalism and makes for a much safer place to live.

He added that a large number of home insurance claims the company deals with involve civil disputes between neighbours – many of which could be avoided with communication.

Cornhill Direct home insurance is part of the Allianz Cornhill group, which won the General Insurer of the Year in 2004 and 2005 at the British insurance awards.
