The UK is set to see a record rise in broken windows over the summer of sport, according to a home insurance company.
July 9th 2006 could see the highest number of home insurance claims for broken windows ever, as the World Cup and Wimbledon finals clash, claims Halifax.
The home insurance provider also states that a 20 per cent rise in home insurance claims for the damage is recorded across the UK during summer.
Halifax advises to ensure that UK homeowners have sufficient home insurance cover, should accidental breakage occur.
Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter for Halifax home insurance, comments: "World Cup fever combined with die-hard Wimbledon and cricket fans could lead to our highest level of claims ever for the summer months.
"It’s great that young and old alike are inspired by their sporting heroes but it might be safer to take ball games to the local park.
"Homeowners should definitely make sure they are covered for such events."
England is currently in the grip of World Cup fever, with St George's crosses bedecking homes and cars and youngsters playing football across the country.
