As winter draws nearer, a home insurance provider has urged UK residents to check that their property is protected from the ravages of winter.
Although a home insurance policy will cover the after-effects of winter, homeowners must keep their house in good repair if they are to make a claim, advised Legal General.
Furthermore, ensuring that steps are taken to protect against inclement weather and the cold could negate the need for a home insurance claim, the company noted.
Legal General provides a range of advice to avoid a home insurance claim - such as checking the house's heating, repairing any dripping taps and checking the lagging on pipes and taps.
Andy Dawson, operations director at Legal General's general insurance business: Household insurance may also provide cover for instances such as bad weather causing a falling tree or falling TV aerial to damage the property.
Customers should take reasonable steps to safeguard their property and contents against loss or damage.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com recently advised individuals at risk of flooding to take steps to ensure that they have adequate home insurance in place.
