Student wealth increasing, say Direct Line Home Insurance

Wed, 02 Aug 2006

According to popular insurance company Direct Line, Student wealth has more than doubled since 1996. The popular home insurance provider conducted a study of student possessions and found a significant increase.

The results are possibly indicative of the ‘live-for-today’ attitude adopted by many young people today. The value of student possessions has apparently skyrocketed, and includes ‘must have’ gadget-style luxury items such as ipods, DVD players, Widescreen televisions and laptops . The average student now has almost £3,000 of personal possessions.

A spokeswoman for Direct Line Home Insurance, Simon Ziviani, commented that: "The wealth of today's students really is proof that times are changing and that the majority now enjoy a degree of affluence. With university set to start back shortly, students are advised to either take out their own insurance or check to see if their parents' policy covers them."

Direct Line Home Insurance provides a ten per cent discount when customers purchase their home insurance policies online. Home insurance for students is a large and growing part of the overall home insurance market.
