Insurance provider More Than have offered to make 15 per cent of a home insurance policy available to students living away from home.
Student houses are a common target for burglars due to their poor security, while the average UK student home contains over £4,000 worth of possessions, the company claims.
More Than's offer means that students living away will be protected by up to £11,250 of home insurance cover, while the company also claims that parents could save over £140 off a specialist student policy.
Craig Allen, head of home insurance at More Than, commented: Parents can have a lot to think about when their children go away to university, to ensure they are financially secure and protected against any eventuality.
With our students' possessions cover, parents can rest assured that their children's valuable belongings are properly covered.
More Than's home insurance policy offers £75,000 cover, up to £7,500 of cover for high-risk items, up to £150 emergency repairs benefit and cover for moving home, provided that approved removal contractors are used.
The company also offers car insurance and pet insurance products.
