Home Insurance Can Cost Millions

Just a few minutes shopping for home insurance can cost UK home owners millions every year.

A Post Office report finds that 40% of property owners use their current mortgage provider for buildings insurance and contents insurance, as opposed to getting a better deal.

Once with a home insurance provider, 80% stick with them for years.

Yet the Post Office suggests that it takes only 15 minutes to shop around, with up to 40% savings to be made.

"Changes to the law six years ago prevented lenders from forcing homeowners to buy their home insurance through them. However, nearly half of consumers still seem to be doing so. Mortgage providers don't always offer the best value for money when it comes to home insurance, so it really is wise to explore other options," stated Claire Oldstein, head of Home Insurance at the Post Office.
