Britons say they would be keen to take out insurance protection against heartbreak, ageing and gaining weight, a new poll revealed.
However, in reality seven million Britons have no insurance at all, Abbey has found. A fifth of homeowners have no home insurance cover and a third of motorists drive around without any car insurance.
Over nine million Britons said that they would take out insurance policies to protect them against a break-up, with women claiming they will be first in line to take out insurance cover like this.
Women are also twice as likely as men to look for insurance cover against gaining weight. But vanity is not only a female curse, with six per cent of men claiming they will sign up for insurance against hair loss.
But whilst people claim they will take out these fantasy insurance policies, they do not take out basic insurance policies.
Abbey found that 50 per cent of people go without any life insurance and only a fifth have insurance in case they become unfit to work.
According to the insurance provider's Sue Wilkinson, the head of health and protection insurance, too many people are taking risks with their family, health, home and car.
"Arranging the right insurance needn't be a hassle and could end up making all the difference during difficult times," she commented on the findings.
