Value collectibles, home insurance company warns

Tue, 08 Nov 2005

Saga Home Insurance is urging people to have their collectables and other older belongings valued and specified on their insurance policy.

Checking the single item limit on a home insurance policy "could prove vital" if people need to claim for theft or damage, the insurance company points out.

The most unexpected items could turn out to be quite expensive to replace, says Saga's chief executive, Andrew Goodsell.

He points out that if possessions are undervalued, insurance policyholders might only receive a small amount of their true worth if claiming from home insurance.

The insurance company has announced that it offers discounts on antiques and collectibles catalogues to help people identify their valuables.

The books are available on the insurance company's website and purchases are delivered free of charge.

The standard single item limit has been increased to £2,500 from £1,000 for Saga Home Insurance policyholders.

If listed separately on the home insurance policy, items exceeding the insurance policy's set limit will receive full cover.
