The coldest winter in ten years is being predicted by the Met Office, which looks set to emphasise the importance of having adequate home insurance.
Legal General is advising homeowners to ensure they have adequate home insurance and home contents insurance in place, as December looks set to be the wettest month.
Adequate home insurance provides homeowners with peace of mind if their home or home contents are damaged or lost, says Elaine Parkes, the technical services manager at the insurance company.
But customers must take reasonable steps to safeguard their property and contents against loss or damage as a condition of their policy. This includes ensuring that their property is maintained in a good condition, she points out.
She adds that home insurance policyholders should make sure they understand clearly what is covered and what is not.
Insurance policyholders should identify any gaps in their current insurance policies before the weather worsens, she says.
Ms Parkes also says that homeowners should prepare their houses for more severe weather.
