Home insurance warning as Christmas approaches

Fri, 16 Dec 2005

Homeowners all over the country are being warned to make sure they take out adequate home insurance as the Christmas season approaches.

Finding cheap home insurance may be seen as time-consuming, but the number of burglaries that go on during the festive season means that homeowners would do well to seek out a good home insurance quote.

There are around 80,000 households, which suffer from domestic burglaries at yuletide.

Opportunistic thieves are hoping to take advantage of the large spending sprees that Britons go on during the season.

It is expected that at Christmas, an average of £310 will be used to purchase presents, bringing the total amount lost due to burglary to an estimated £50 million, reports the Daily Mail.

Many British youngsters are expecting to receive hi-tech and relatively expensive presents such as the Microsoft Xbox and the iPod Nano, so it seems imperative that homeowners cover their contents with the right home insurance policy.

The newspaper provides some helpful hints to ward off criminals from attempting to steal Christmas gifts.

All presents should be kept out away from windows to keep them out of sight.

It may benefit a home insurance claim if homeowners make sure they secure all accessible windows, particularly those on the ground floor and near drainpipes or flat roofs.
